REPORTS TO:             Bariatric Program Director Operationally and Clinically the Bariatric Medical Director
 
JOB SUMMARY:          Practices in an expanded role to provide health care to individuals, families and/or groups in a variety of settings; acts independently or collaboratively with other health professionals in the delivery of health care services; provides teaching and consultation and performs research; performs comprehensive physical examinations on patients who present with acute/chronic illnesses; performs appropriate medical screening procedures, interprets laboratory data and orders laboratory investigations; recognizes abnormalities and provides services and treatments; answer patient questions and triage problems to the surgeon; provides teaching and counseling that assists families to become responsible for their own health care.  Participates in education, research (reporting and publishing, and performance improvement; collaborates with Bariatric Team in support of quality improvement and institutional policies; actively participates in and serves on institutional committees; lead support group meetings 1-3 times per year; and On-Call to patients with emergent issues on limited basis. Must have excellent written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills; effective time management and organizational skills; self-directed and the ability to make independent decisions with strong problem solving skills; meet tight deadlines, with high volumes and multiple interruptions; competency in the use of a variety of computer hardware and software systems.  Must attend Bariatric staff meetings; Return patient telephone messages promptly; and participate in offsite functions.
 
REQUIREMENTS:  1)  Graduate of an accredited school of nursing  2) Currently licensed as an NP in the state of Texas 3) CPR, ACLS  4) Certified Bariatric Nurse or working toward certification within two years of hire  5) Minimum of 2 years nursing experience. 6) New grads encouraged to apply.
